On Oct. 31, the Delaware Valley High School football team faced a formidable opponent in Pittston Area, who entered the game with an impressive 8-2 record. Anticipation ran high for what promised to be a challenging matchup, and the game lived up to expectations.

The game unfolded with Pittston scoring first, but their extra point attempt was thwarted by D.V’s Mike Luzzolino, who delivered a crucial block. Later, Pittston's attempt at a field goal went awry, giving Delaware Valley an opportunity to capitalize. They managed to score a touchdown, with the reliable Reagan Decker converting the extra point, which ultimately proved to be the decisive factor in the game.

The rest of the game showcased a fierce defensive battle from both teams, making that single extra point the difference between victory and defeat. For Pittston, this loss must have been particularly hard, as they entered the game with high hopes and a strong record. The final score, reminiscent of a baseball game, stood at 7-6 in favor of Delaware Valley.

On Nov. 7, 2025, Delaware Valley faced another challenge in the Section II 5A title game against Abington Heights, another 8-2 team. Abington Heights showcased their talent right from the start, scoring 17 points before Delaware Valley could respond. Their offense appeared unstoppable, with both the running and passing games operating at peak efficiency. Abington's running game was a collective effort, making it difficult for Delaware Valley to pinpoint a single threat. By halftime, Delaware Valley managed to score a touchdown and convert the extra point, but Abington matched them, leading 24-7 at the break — a seemingly tough deficit to overcome.

But, Delaware Valley is known for their resilience in the second half. They emerged from the locker room with renewed energy, shutting down Abington's offense and holding them scoreless in the second half.

Meanwhile, D.V.'s offense came alive, scoring 20 points to secure a thrilling 27-24 victory. Just as in the Pittston game, this loss was likely a crushing blow for Abington, who had held a significant lead and appeared poised to advance to the title. Both Pittston and Abington experienced the sting of defeat after leading early in their respective games, with Delaware Valley's relentless spirit outlasting them both.

So, what is the secret behind D.V.'s success? They consistently face teams with superior records, but they manage to come out on top almost every time.

The answer lies in their relentless determination. Delaware Valley never gives up; they wear down their opponents, breaking their spirit and instilling a sense of hopelessness. They are known for being a second-half team, with both their offense and defense coming out stronger after halftime. Their tenacity shakes their opponents, making victory seem out of reach.

While there are too many standout players to mention individually, several deserve recognition. James Dabney is a reliable receiver, consistently making catches and gaining significant yardage after the catch. Justin Estevez is a defensive powerhouse, known for his ability to make crucial tackles and sacks. He confidently predicted a D.V. victory during a conversation at a girls' volleyball game, and he delivered with key defensive plays. Mike Luzzolino is another defensive force and a scoring machine, consistently finding ways to break through opposing defenses. Devin Estevez complements Luzzolino's efforts, providing a strong running game that keeps defenses on their toes. Reagan Decker, a standout kicker, has only missed one extra point or field goal this season, showcasing his exceptional talent. Colin McGarvey has improved with each game, completing a high percentage of his passes and contributing to the team's success. Trey Newton, a talented sophomore, continues to develop as an all-around athlete.

Other notable players include Teegan Handay and Zion Colon, among many others. Delaware Valley's success is a testament to their teamwork, and every player on the roster contributes to their achievements.

The playoff game against Hollidaysburg on Friday, Nov. 14 will be televised on BRC TV Channel 113 on Blue Ridge cable at 7:00 p.m.

Delaware Valley, you make the community proud.

There should be a celebratory parade in Milford at the end of the school year to honor the boys' football team, the girls' volleyball team, the cheerleaders, and other successful sports teams from this year.

So far, it has been a championship year for DVHS.
