'Wheelin' Warrior' deer hunt at river refuge

SUSSEX, N.J. — The "Wheelin’ Warrior" deer hunts are a chance for wounded veterans and others with permanent physical disabilities to enjoy hunting alongside an experienced mentor.
The Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge, in partnership with the National Wild Turkey Federation, is offering a free guided archery hunt for wounded veterans and disabled individuals on Nov. 1, 2, and 3.
Crossbows will be provided to all participants. Free deer processing will also be provided by the Newton High School Future Farmers of America Chapter.
Space is limited, and registration is required by Oct. 3. Specify which hunt day you would prefer. A $50 refundable deposit is required at registration. Hunters must obtain a 2016 New Jersey Bow and Arrow or All-around Sportsmen License, Zone 2 Bow Permit, and an Antlered Buck Permit prior to the hunt.
