Stabbing ruled accidental
GREENTOWN n State police have ruled that a 21-year-old Lake Ariel man died of an accidental, self-inflicted knife wound sometime after a June 7 altercation with another man. According to a press release filed by state police at Blooming Grove, Matthew Meyers and Matthew Young, no address given, had an altercation at Southerton Lane in the Escape Community at 10:25 p.m. on June 7. Young told police the altercation turned physical and Meyers lunged at him with a knife in his right hand. Young defended himself, striking Meyers in the head with his left fist. Police said Young realized that his sweatshirt had been sliced and that he was bleeding. At this point the altercation ended and Young went to a nearby house to clean his wound. Returning later to the scene, he found Meyers on the ground, with emergency personnel and police already on the scene. Police reported that Meyers suffered a self inflicted puncture wound in the area of his left chest. Meyers was transported to Community Medical Center in Scranton, where he died of the wound. An autopsy was to be performed on June 8.
