State aids PEEC stormwater controls
Dingmans Ferry - The Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC) has announced approval of a Watershed Protection grant of $121,600 from the Department of Environmental Protection, Growing Greener II program. This grant will help fund the design and construction of stormwater best management practices for the center’s campus. This project includes the installation of “Best Management Practices” such as construction of a retention basin and restoration of native landscaping around the center’s Visitor Activity Center. These installations will counteract the effects on non-point source pollution and stormwater runoff on the campus. The project is designed to enhance the natural features that surround each area of the campus and will work with the existing topography. The project will also act as a successful hands-on teaching tool to the 20,000 adults and children that visit the center each year to help educate the public on the importance of watershed protection.
