Milford — On Friday, Oct. 2, “Strengthening Families” will begin at the First Presbyterian Church in Milford. This program, in which both parents and middle school youth participate, is university developed, tested and shown to reduce substance abuse and school conduct problems. Eunice Taylor of Milford, who participated in fall 2008, endorses the program. “My son and I have a very good relationship, however, he is a preteen and I figured anything that can help me survive his teen years couldn’t hurt. This program far exceeded my expectations. I learned a lot about my son. We have incorporated what we learned into our daily lives. I would recommend this program to all families.” Strengthening Families is offered at no cost, thanks in part to a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Seven weekly meetings begin with dinner that is followed by breakout sessions focusing on the night’s topic. Look for the Strengthening Families information table at Dingman Delaware Middle School and Delaware Valley Middle School Open House events on Sept. 15, or contact Penn State Cooperative Extension, 514 Broad Street, in Milford.
