HAwley - The Lake Region IGA sponsored two events in September to benefit the Ritz Theatre in Hawley, Pa., netting total contributions of $6,118. The “Scramble for the Ritz Theatre” Captain and Crew Golf Tournament was held on Sept. 11 for the benefit of the Ritz Theatre Maintenance Fund. Seventy golfers participated in the event that included a chance to win a 2006 Harley Davidson Motorcycle and other prizes. The IGA Kidsfest was held on Sept. 17 and included games, prizes, food, pony rides, petting zoo and raffle prizes including a new youth Polaris ATV. The event was held to offset the cost of play rights for the Ritz Bitz Children’s Theatre. The Company Players, Inc. was founded in 1973 by Marjorie C. Murphy. Marjorie was intent on bringing live community theatre to the Lake Wallenpaupack area of the Pocono Mountains. While Murphy is the only founding board member still active and holds the office of treasurer, many of the current board members and actors have been involved for over 30 years. The all volunteer organization proudly celebrated its 33rd season of live community theatre last year.
