Township balks at private plan
Milford Pike County has announced a deal with a private contractor to conduct “single stream” recycling efforts, but Milford Township Supervisor’s Chair Don Quick has reservations. Noting that the county decision was made without consulting the township, Quick said the new contractor, Waste Management, would be using multiple roll-off bins. “They drop them on the ground and they have heavy steel wheels. Our pavement (at the township building recycling area) was not designed for that kind of use,” he said. The supervisors approved a resolution to accompany a letter to Pike Commissioners’ Chair Richard Caridi saying Milford would not allow the new containers before their issues were resolved. In unrelated business, the supervisors approved a letter to the commissioners offering to negotiate their takeover of Owego Turnpike. The county wants the road posted for one-way traffic. The township wants it to remain open to two-way traffic and would negotiate needed repairs.
