Township still in the dark on Santos

Milford — No word from Pike County continues to be the word at Milford Township. In addition to seeking a county spokesperson to explain recycling plans since mid-July, Milford Supervisors have also been waiting for someone to talk about the county’s planned purchase of a portion of the Santos Farm, which adjoins township property. Township Secretary-Treasurer Viola Canouse on Monday reported learning that Pike is seeking to acquire 96 acres of the approximately 120-acre farm. “But we’re not sure where ,” she added. “And there’s been no subdivision map submitted,” Supervisor’s Chair Don Quick said, adding that once again there is no one here from the county.” Quick also noted Pike’s compliance letter, that the recycling facility will be removed by November 18, as per the township’s request. That action came after no one from Pike County appeared in July or August to detail recycling program plans, despite township requests. Quick confirmed that Supervisor Gary Williams had mentioned verbal discussions with Commissioner Harry Forbes, but Quick was not satisfied. “I don’t believe (Pike) could not have gotten someone over here to explain this,” he said. He admitted some might find evicting the program rash, but “I’m not a politician. I just do what I think is best for the town.”
