Trash talking at the township meeting

DINGMAN — “I’ve always aspired to garbage; it’s a step up from sewage waste,” Dingman Township Sewage Enforcement Officer Chris Wood said in a chuckling tone. Wood was referring to a letter the Township received from Christine Obser, Pike County recycling coordinator. Obser notified the supervisors that the Pike County Municipal Waste Disposal Plan was going to be updated. Supervisors Chair Tom Mincer gave Wood the job of representing the township in the effort. Wood earlier reported on the sewage department’s first annual spring get-together. That meeting was held on Apr. 19 to apprise sewage system installers about township inspection requirements, ways to improve system construction, materials and components that would be advantageous for them to use. The new Home Improvement Contractors Act was part of the agenda as well as clarifications of its details. “Dingman Township is the only township in Pike County to have had a coordinated meeting between the township and contractors,” Wood said. Mincer also read a letter from Milford Township regarding their interest in being part of a new joint buildings appeal board. The appeals board currently is a joint effort between Dingman Township and Milford Borough. The appeals board is in the early organizational stages, seeking volunteers to be on the board. There were to be five members and two alternates between the two municipalities. The joint buildings appeals board will be responsible for permits, renewals and extensions of building projects. They will adjudicate differences regarding building issues which come up between contractors and the township departments overseeing the projects. A representative from Milford Emergency Services reported EMS had 218 calls to date this year with 86 of them in Dingman. Fire calls year to date were 122 with 55 in Dingman.
