Wine-tasting and weekend getaway package MILFORD - Milford’s Laurel Villa Country Inn & Restaurant will celebrate Valentine’s Day and romance on Friday, Feb. 16 at 6:30 p.m. with a “Valentine on the Vine” wine tasting. The Laurel Villa was just named “Overall Best Restaurant in Pike County” in the 2006 River Reporter’s Readers’ Choice Awards. “We’ve chosen five wines that have romance in their name or their label,” said Janice Halsted, Innkeeper at the Laurel Villa, “and the tasting and dining afterwards will take place in our cozy fireplace parlor where we serve over the winter. In these winter months we’re usually open Friday through Sunday, but we will also be open on Wednesday, Feb. 14 for Valentine’s Day dinner.” Included in the “Valentine on the Vine” tasting are two whites - Red Mud Chardonnay from Australia and Danzante Pinot Grigio from Italy, two reds - Angoves Red Belly Black Shiraz from Australia and Folie a Deux Menage a Trois Red Meritage from Califronia, as well as Etude Carnerose, a pink Pinot Noir from the Napa Valley. John Foley of Capital Wines & Spirits will present and describe each selection. Accompanying each wine will be hors d’oeuvres chosen and prepared by Chef Carl, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. All guests who choose to stay for dinner afterwards will receive 15% off their entree. “We’ll offer a complimentary flower to each lady that attends the tasting,” said Halsted, “and delicious Valentine chocolate will accompany one of the reds. For lovers, we also have Oysters Rockefeller on our menu all month.” The Laurel Villa is also offering a getaway package for both Valentine and Presidents weekend. For $99 per person (plus tax and tip) guests will enjoy a room with private bath, a four course dinner with complimentary glass of champagne, and continental breakfast in the morning. Seating for the “Valentine on the Vine” wine-tasting is limited. Reservations, at $25 per person, should be made by Sunday, Feb. 11.
