Vision testing makes teachable moments

WESTFALL Delaware Valley School District Certified School Nurse Helen Cron is pictured doing vision screening on Jonathan Cabrera, a first grader in Colleen Hiller’s Delaware Valley Elementary School class. It is mandated that all children from grades kindergarten through eighth grade have vison screening every year. Besides doing their vision screening, Cron said the screeners also try to use the one-on-one time to reinforce important safety issues like wearing seat belts and helmets when riding their bikes. “It is such a pleasure to have this time to actually interact with the children,” said Cron. “Those teachable moments are priceless.”
