WESTFALL — Jay Tucker, Chair of the Counseling Department and Coordinator of College Financial Aid in the Delaware Valley School District, will be sponsoring a financial aid night for the parents of DV High School seniors on Wednesday, Jan. 7. The seminar will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium and will fully acquaint parents with the financial aid programs available for higher education from universities, colleges, technical schools and other post secondary educational institutions. A thorough explanation of grants, student loans, parent loans, need analysis, and financial aid packaging will be discussed. Tucker said “there are many state and federal financial aid programs for students, but it is necessary that the correct forms be processed and that the deadlines for filing them be observed.” The new financial aid forms for 2009 will be available at DV’s financial aid night. Last year, according to state and federal figures, over $12 million dollars in aid was granted to Pike County residents to attend institutions of higher education. This represents over $4.8 million dollars in grant money and $7.4 million in low-interest educational loans. Tucker was “very pleased” at the amount of aid that the district was able to secure for our students and feels that there should be at least this much aid available for the “Class of 2009,” due to the fact that no major cuts in college financial aid have occurred during the past year. The financial aid night for the parents of DV High School seniors has become an annual event that Tucker believes can be the first step in minimizing the anxiety associated with securing the necessary funding for a post high school education. This seminar is one that all parents of seniors should attend if they will be seeking any financial aid for their son’s or daughter’s college education.
