White Out Day 07

WESTFALL n On May 17, a combination of Delaware Valley High School seniors and SASA (Students Against Substance Abuse) members participated in the annual White Out Day. Students volunteered to represent a person who died by dressing in black and painting their faces white. The purpose of the activity is to illustrate the statistic that someone dies every thirty minutes due to an alcohol-related incident. Each student also had a tombstone hung up in the main hallway of the high school with a story describing his or her death. Students passed out red ribbons to anyone who would be affected by their deaths with the hope that this makes students more aware of the consequences associated with choices they make. White Out Day is intentionally scheduled for the day before the high school prom. The number of deaths related to alcohol is higher at this time of year. Student participants included: Kathleen Cancelino, Erin Osborne, Chyna Colon, Jackie Massey, Lauren Merikas, Kyersten Rozanski, Sarah Dewey, Danielle Gilson, Megan Welker, Ryan Lovelady, Kristen Fehr, Adam Blackman, Stefanie Castro, Krystal Titman and Kristen Wroblewski.
