Williams resigns from Camp Speers-Eljabar

YMCA appoints Cherie Hammond interim executive director DINGMANS FERRY According to a statement from the YMCA, Ravenell Williams, IV has submitted his resignation as chief executive officer of Camp Speers-Eljabar YMCA effective July 15, to pursue other career opportunities. “The Board of Trustees sincerely thanks Ravenell for his dedication and commitment to the organization, its mission, and its vision and we extend our warmest wishes for success in all his future endeavors.” The board announced that Cherie Hammond, the camp’s chief operating officer will be assuming the role of Interim CEO effective July 16. Hammond rejoined Camp Speers-Eljabar YMCA in May 2005, having served as Program Director of Eljabar in 1981 and Associate Director for Eljabar and Conferences in 1982-83. She has also held positions as Youth & Special Program Director at the Morris Center YMCA and as the Senior Program Director at the Princeton Family YMCA. In addition to her YMCA work, Cherie was the Director of Conference and Event Planning for Johnson State College. Cherie has an Associates degree in Recreation and Leisure Service and a Bachelor of Science degree in Outdoor Recreation Management. She also earned a Senior Director Certification through the YMCA of the USA’s Professional Development Program. The 2008 Northeast YMCA Camping Conference Chair, Cherie lives with her husband, Marty and their daughter Katie at the camp. “The Board of Trustees of Camp Speers-Eljabar has great confidence in the leadership abilities of our professional staff and looks forward to working with our new Interim CEO as she begins her tenure during our 2008 summer camping season and as CSEY celebrates it’s 60th anniversary this year,” the statement concluded.
