A good experience
To the editor: Just how thorough and accommodating can a buyer’s real estate agent be? Does she check the “hot sheets” each day to make sure her client doesn’t miss a new listing? Is she patient enough to let her customer make his own decisions? Is she diligent enough to follow up any and all queries (and potential ones) her customer may have? Does she go four hours out of her way to drive a customer home who has missed his bus? Huh? Do what?! Enter Amelia Pearn of Davis R. Chant Realtors, agent extraordinaire. Residing in New Jersey, I felt myself a bit lost when I embarked upon my search for a home in the Poconos. I had picked up one of the free Pocono real estate guides in my local supermarket and decided to call some of the agencies who advertised homes that seemed appealing. After speaking with several agents on the phone, I found Amelia. Not pushy or over-the-top enthusiastic about any of the listings I inquired about, Amelia was also patient with my numerous questions. (And believe me, they can be numerous!) The ones she couldn’t immediately reply to, she researched, and promptly called or emailed me with the answers. I decided to work exclusively with Amelia and haven’t had a regretful moment since. Each day she emails me the new listings which appear on the hot sheets. And each day I email back my questions about those listings, which she then answers to my satisfaction, whether it takes five emails (or phone calls) or 15. Never have I worked with someone so thorough. And on the occasions when I have visited homes with Amelia, she understates her opinions of them, pointing out the positive as well as the negative, being certain to allow me to ultimately make my own decision. Rarely can one say his visit with a real estate agent was “unforgettable”, yet my most recent one clearly qualifies. Being that my transportation to the Poconos that day was via bus, it was of paramount importance that I be back at the station by 2:30 to catch the return bus to New Jersey. But my indecision about a particular property slightly lengthened my stay, causing me to miss my ride. What was I going to do? The next bus was 5 hours later and I had to arrive home in time to attend to some business. Forlorn, I looked at Amelia, hoping she had a magical solution. And then came those words... “I’ll drive you home,” she volunteered, without the slightest bit of hesitation. “What?!” I said, in disbelief. “It’s two hours each way, Amelia. That’s crazy.” “What the heck, I like driving in Jersey anyway,” she cheerfully retorted. And off we went, Labor Day weekend traffic and all. And through all of this, Amelia has yet to profit a dime off me. But her day will probably come. (I say “probably”, as there are no financial guarantees in being a real estate agent.) And if it does, with it will come the satisfaction that she did her best for me, that she educated me as conscientiously and thoroughly as she could, so that I, in turn, could make the most informed decision possible. Now that’s a real estate agent! Dan Moses Old Tappan, N.J.
