Carney votes against American energy independence

The U.S. House of Representatives just passed The American Clean Energy and Security Act, a clean energy bill that will create jobs, move us off dirty fuels, and reduce global warming pollution. Despite Independence Day being just ahead of us, Congressman Carney voted against moving America to energy independence and against progress, when he voted against the ACES bill. The American Clean Energy and Security Act not only addresses America’s energy and climate challenges, it addresses our national security. Americans consume 25 percent of the world’s oil supply, yet we only control 3 percent. Therefore, we are forced to maintain dangerously close relationships with oil rich nations -- some of which even support terrorism-- in order to satisfy our energy needs. This is why we have troops overseas in harm’s way, rather than at home with their families or at work here, keeping the homeland safe. This legislation will move America in a new direction by creating millions of jobs at home and shifting us to clean energy sources—like wind and solar—that will get us off our dangerous addiction to dirty oil. As the bill moves to the Senate, we need to make it even stronger so that we can have the full benefits of a clean energy future. As the chairman of the Pennsylvania Sierra Club, I want to let Congressman Carney know that his vote against The American Clean Energy and Security Act was a vote against the future of Pennsylvania and our country.
