Energized for change

To the editor: During the primary of the 2006 Governor’s election, Pike County Democrats cast an overwhelming number of votes to elect a representative to the Pennsylvania Democratic Committee, reelect a Democratic Governor, and elect Democrats as our U.S. Senator and U.S. Representative. A year later, Democrats are on the ballot for almost every county office. Democrats are energized for change. Karl Wagner’s dedication to the welfare and growth of Pike County is demonstrated continuously as our current County Commissioner. His involvement in economic growth, infrastructure improvements, and preservation of open space establishes his depth of commitment. His leadership will bring continuity to programs in the County as Democratic changes occur. Ileana Hernandez is an experienced public official, serving as Delaware Township Supervisor. For those who have never been to a township meeting, it’s not easy looking your neighbor in the eye across a table at monthly meetings and making difficult decisions that affect people in different ways. Ileana has earned respect for bringing quality services and integrity to the township office, and I have no doubt she will bring the same leadership to the Commissioner’s office. Gerry Hansen is not new to local government, either. His campaign for County Treasurer has garnered the support of Democrats and Republicans because he knows business and government. He effectively brought his experience at managing major international companies to the businesses of Pike County and people know that. He also served as Pike County Commissioner. Michael Meachum emphasizes public service. The Office of the Prothonotary is a place that houses legal documents vital to many parts of our lives and businesses. As Pike County grows, the needs of many must be continually addressed. Mike brings energized commitment to meeting these needs without disenfranchising. Andrea Filone brings extensive knowledge of technology and streamlining businesses to make the office of Recorder of Deeds more efficient, saving the county money. Pike County’s rapid growth requires tracking land ownership carefully. I’m confident that Andrea can organize this awesome task. She’s looking forward to working with the current team and serving the public. Missi Strub pays particular attention to the details with a passion for honesty. These traits inspire trust, a reason to reelect her for Pike County Auditor. She’ll bring experience, continuity and good government to the office of Auditor. Carole Orleman lives in Lackawaxen Township where I live and I am pleased and privileged to know her. Carole has a strong sense of purpose and tenacity and will adhere to best practices as an Auditor. She will not shy away from asking questions and has excellent communication skills. The country is set for a sea change. Vote Democratic on Nov. 6 and take the county along for the change, too. The change will do us good. Democrats need to vote.
