Butterflies make hearts flutter at Remembrance Place

To the Editor:
Butterflies were “in the air” as members of the Milford Garden Club held a children’s program “How to Build a Butterfly Feeder.” Held at Remembrance Place, a Milford borough park, children began with a nature scavenger hunt. Next, we visited the medicinal garden bed and learned about how plants were used throughout history to cure illness. Finally, participants examined how butterflies are pollinators and are essential to our food production. Most especially, it was so surprising to learn that butterflies can actually see the color “red”; feed through their feet; and live in all continents except Antarctica!
Finally, they made their own butterfly feeders out of mason jars. Natalie and Nicole Kresse sparkled as they completed their feeder. As the program ended, suddenly, butterflies appeared!
Thanks to Milford Garden Club members, Sue Smith, Rosanne Henigan (and husband, Douglas), Pat Corcoran and Natalie Augustin for their assistance.
