To the Editor:
Evan Smith, a Life Scout with Troop 68, Cuddebackville, N.Y., has been diligently working towards his Eagle Scout rank by completing a great project on the grounds of the Humane Society of Port Jervis/Deerpark. With a group of dedicated volunteers, Evan has worked since Nov. 2015 to create The Dog Walk — a path winding through the woods that includes various sitting areas on park benches overlooking the Neversink River.
The Dog Walk is already used daily by staff and volunteers to get shelter dogs outdoors for exercise and quality time. It is a perfect complement to another Eagle Scout project — an enclosed meet-and-greet area for prospective adopters and dogs — completed a few years back.
Evan and the humane society offer special thanks to the local businesses that made this project possible through donations of materials and/or labor: Somarelli Trucking, Huguenot, N.Y.; PeenPack Sand and Gravel Inc., Huguenot, N.Y.; Sign Here Sign Co. Inc., Port Jervis, N.Y.; American Lawn and Tree Company, Cuddebackville, N.Y.; The Home Depot, Matamoras Pa.
