Letter to the editor. ‘The cart before the horse’

    To the editor:

Our County Commissioners have certainly been promoting efforts to, and now confirmation of, having a medical urgent care facility in Pike County.

Summer 2023, really? With no licensing yet? No PA insurance allowance yet for Northwell Health? And no Township approval yet? “The cart before the horse” perhaps.

My individual, self-pay, PA health insurance through Pennie won’t even allow me to use the closest LabCorp facility in Milford Borough. How can l be optimistic a Long Island, NY provider will be accepted by my individual Highmark PA health insurance policy.

To the Commissioners: Do you have any idea the limitations of individual health insurance for Pike residents? We have two companies from which to choose and one has facilities nowhere near here. Have you canvased these residents? Before the bragging rights go any further I’d like to know what efforts are being taken to assure acceptance of Northwell Health “New York’s largest health system” by the two Pike County health insurance companies’ various policies for the individual market (Highmark and Geisinger). Without this, any new medical facility doesn’t help get medical care closer to home.

Further, will this NY provider accept PA Medicaid/CHIP? Will this NY provider accept PA Medicare Advantage Plans?
