Response to 'No fireworks at the Woodlands this year'

To the Editor:
It is sad that such a beautiful tradition is being destroyed by the personal agendas that are being pushed forward in the PWLPOA (Woodlands community). This, on top of the email blast where the President and Security Committee basically abdicated all responsibility and involvement in our community under the guise of “lack of training,” certainly makes one pause and wonder what is happening.
If rumors are true, the goal is to propose armed security and lethal weapon training for our new “Public Safety Division.” I am all for security training, having worked in law enforcement for 26 years. However, there should be limits to what we as a community will allow. Certain questions need to be answered, such as employee indemnification, training costs, and increased insurance premiums that cover the added risk of lawsuits, to name a few.
It is my belief that a review of the incidents that our security personnel have been called upon to remediate in the past will not warrant such drastic changes. It is a shame that longtime board volunteers have been badgered to the point of resignation and others forced out so that people can be handpicked and appointed to the board of directors. Where is our say? Is this what the majority of the community wants?
