The biggest losers
To the Editor:
It’s self-evident that there are no winners in a lose-lose election. We were forced to vote against candidates, not for them. With the choices given, we were predestined to lose.
Still, there are degrees of failure; some lost more than others. So, who were the biggest losers? Both political party establishments lost. The urban elites lost. The trade unions lost. On college campuses, the “effete core of impudent snobs who characterize themselves as intellectuals” lost. We could go on, but there’s another group of losers that are more important.
Despite mountains of evidence of scandal, and corruption against Hillary Clinton, the New York Times, Washington Post, NPR, the networks, CNN, Bloomberg, and others buried those facts and, instead, put Donald Trump under a microscope. Some were guilty, not just of bias, but of collusion with the Clinton campaign. The curtain was opened for the world to see: the once-venerated fourth estate was exposed as the fifth column for the left.
The press threw everything they could at Trump; and when they ran out of stuff (including material Trump himself supplied), they made up lies to pitch at him. His victory renders the press impotent. They are clearly the biggest losers.
