Matamoras Armed Forces Parade
The Veterans Memorial Park & Education Center Society thanks all organizations and individuals who took part or helped make the Armed Forces Day Parade on May 16 in Matamoras a big success. The response was terrific. We are especially appreciative to those veterans organizations and unaffiliated veterans who participated in the parade and, or, the ceremony held at Matamoras Monument in Veterans Park afterward. We are grateful to the DV Junior high school band, The Broome Street Band, and bagpipers Chris Brighton & Gene Mitchell; for the music. Thanks to those who provided rides for the parade people, especially the hay wagon for those “old” vets. We are also pleased with the other organizations that took part. The Society was absolutely thrilled by the number of “Americans” who lined Pennsylvania Avenue to show support for those men & women who served in the military. It was very gratifying. We hope to have more of the veterans who are unable to walk, join us next year. Armed Forces Day Parade next year will be held on Saturday, May 15. We look forward to a parade with even more participants. We will start making contacts in January of next year. The Vets Park Society will be dedicating a new monument to be completed in July; the monument is for the “Cold War”; the period that spanned over 40 years following the conclusion of WWII. The date of the dedication will be made public when we know when it is. We invite the general public to visit our Vets Park anytime during the time Airport Park is open. Thank you for your support!
