Need new voices in Milford Borough

To the editor: For the first time in a long time, there is real competition for seats on the Milford Borough Council. This is good news for all of us regardless of the outcome. Three of the Republicans running are familiar faces who have served a long and distinguished tenure. Matt Osterberg, Bo Fean, and Red Helms have provided wisdom, stability, and continuity to our local government. In my opinion, they are fine individuals, and have earned our support. We also have an opportunity to add some new voices to the governing body of our town- Ed Raarup, Eric Bufano Moeglich, Jim Vandevender, and I are all seeking seats on the council. Of the four of us, Ed Raarup has served for the past year as an appointed council member, and I strongly believe, Ed deserves your support. I believe governments benefit from a diversity of viewpoints and ideas. There is a tendency to always think you are right, and to keep doing the same thing without questioning if it is really working or serving the public good. I spent 35 years in the federal government and have seen first hand the dangers of “group think.” We have an opportunity to make sure we do not fall in to that trap. We have some real issues to deal with in the upcoming years- many business currently lie vacant, historic structures are in danger of falling down from neglect and abandonment, traffic, good financial management, and quality of life issues - just to name a few. I am asking for your vote on Nov. 6. However, I ask that you consider supporting some or all of the new voices in our town council. We all benefit from an open and vibrant town government.
