Not so small
To the editor: I am writing in regards to your article in Dec 21 issue aptly titled “ Dingman budget gets a small hike”. I was surprised your editorial staff thought a 35% increase in the Dingman Township budget was small. I call it quite large and I wish my budget would increase by 35%. But somehow most employers think 2-3% is a large increase and after Uncle Sam take his bit you are usually looking at one percent. So, I think to most working folks 35% is a lot. I would even dare to call it giant. Instead of telling me how this 35% increase is only going to cost me $17 a year, which I doubt, tell me why 2,368,500 was enough last year but this year they need 3,203,768. What is the $834,268 going towards? I have always enjoyed reading the articles that related to local politics in your paper. With small children at home and working I can not go to these meetings, which is a good thing for the local politicians. I depend upon your paper to keep me up to date on local politics so I make an informed vote in local elections. So when I see spin like “35% is a small hike” and no real substantive questions answers I am disappointed. I do thank you for covering the issue but I do expect more from your paper.
