Share some kindness tonight

A Night of Kindness: The words alone comfort me. I came to Safe Haven through my friend Karen. Although, I myself was in an abusive relationship years ago, I didn’t have a clue how vital, and important this “extraordinary community of women” was to the “extraordinary community of women, men and children in Pike County.” Last year Karen Kontizas and I co-chaired the first Paint Pike Purple The Art of Kindness. It was a huge success on many levels. But on the level of human generosity - emotionally, and spiritually - it surpassed even our greatest expectations. All of us who were involved, and there are many women who worked very hard at bringing the evening together, who saw first hand how the power of giving brings out the best in human beings. You offer a hand. You pull someone up. You embrace them. They hug you back. It’s quite simple, actually, this gesture of kindness and goodness and humanity. This year we have decided to do something a bit different. Times are tough. We recognize that. We recognize that within the four walls of Safe Haven, Inc. is the power of hope, the power of courage, the power of generosity, and the irrefutable power of love. So, we decided to create an evening where all are welcome, an evening that brings the community together — that offers comfort; along with food, and music, and joy and good cheer - and the hope, the huge hope that if we hold each other up in times of need, in times of trouble, in times of sadness and loss, we will become better human beings. Please know when you support a place like Safe Haven, Inc, what you’re really supporting is your neighbor, your friend, your child, your spouse, and the power to create a loving, caring, and vital community. Amy Schor Ferris Milford Night of Kindness is to be held at the Muir House tonight, Sept. 26; Kindness begins at 6 p.m. The cost is $30 per person. Call 570-296-2827.
