Time for a change
To the editor: Back in June, I was privileged to be part of the “divided we fail” kick-off in Harrisburg. Sponsored by AARP, buses arrived from all parts of Pa. to meet with our representatives. Piefer, Baker and Siptroth graciously met with us to discuss issues concerning seniors. Democrats, Republicans, blacks, whites, young and old immediately saw the advantage in uniting for the common good. What a wonderful experience! Standing side by side with this diverse crowd I couldn’t help but bring this same idea home to my campaign. There seem to be a new sensibility in Pike County that puts values above partisanship. Good government is possible. It’s up to the people to make the changes necessary to reflect how we feel. Everybody recognizes the alarming need for change on a national level. In local elections the same need exists. Look into the education, the community involvement, the values of the candidates. Base your choice on qualifications, on uniting for the common good,on a desire for a better Pike County. When the reins of power are held for too long by one party, everybody suffers. A certain presumption of right is sensed. A certain arrogance prevails. If one looks at the statistics, one sees that 53% of Pike County residents are Democrats or Independents. We have been under represented for too long. Don’t wait for 08. Give the Democrats a shot. The change will do us good. Carole Orleman Lackawaxen
