Voting issues and the NAACP

As the NAACP celebrates their 100th birthday, we in Pike County are dealing with issues that go back a long time in America. Questions about voting irregularities, the disenfrancisement of large blocks of voters and charges of racism rear their ugly heads here in Pike. Some of us are appalled by the difficulties faced by those who just want to vote. Long lines because there are not enough voting machines is appalling. The “appearance of irregularities “ is appalling . The number of voters, particularly commuters and working parents, who have just given up trying to vote is appalling. As Ronald Reagan said “Our Constitution is based on a belief in the innate God given worth of every individual, and that this worth cannot be denied without diminishing and endangering us all.” We are doing 2 things to organize, to celebrate and to encourage change. On September 12, 6-10 at Pocmont Resort the Pike County Democrats, at their Annual Dinner will, among other things celebrate 100 years of NAACP history. A NAACP guest speaker will help us celebrate. By that time or before, I hope to have the signatures of 100 people who want to be founding members in the FIRST Pike County Chapter of the NAACP. This group is not affiliated with the Democrat party. It is open to all who believe in the sentiments of Ronald Reagan expressed in the above quote. NAACP is open to all who believe in the promise of America . Please e-mail me if you are interested in either effort at caroleao@ptd.net . Carole Orleman Lackawaxen
