Get on the water
Here are some great places to swim, boat and paddle around Pike County.
Milford Beach: Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, 150 Milford Beach Rd., Milford, PA
Milford Beach is one of the few designated swimming areas within the recreation area. There are no lifeguards; visitors swim at their own risk. Amenities include river access, picnic facilities and a boat launch.
Activities: Hiking, biking, swimming, paddling, boating, fishing, picnicking
Hours: Sunrise to sunset. Parking is $10.
Akenac Park: PA-739, Dingmans Ferry, PA
Akenac Park is a lakeside recreation area featuring a public swim beach, fishing access and boat rentals. There are no lifeguards; swim at your own risk. Amenities include picnic areas, playgrounds and access for paddling and non-motorized boating.
Activities: Swimming, paddling, boating, fishing, picnicking, playground
Hours: Open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Tuesdays for maintenance.
High Point State Park: High Point State Park, 1480 State Route 23, Wantage, NJ
High Point State Park offers multiple opportunities to get on the water. Swimming is allowed at Lake Marcia from Memorial Day to Labor Day when lifeguards are on duty. There is a bathhouse and first aid station.
Sawmill Lake and Steenykill Lake both have boat launches, welcoming paddleboards, kayaks and boats with electric motors.
Activities: Swimming at Lake Marcia, paddling and boating at Sawmill and Steenykill lakes, fishing, hiking, biking
Hours: Park is open from 8 a.m. to sunset. Swimming is expected to start June 17, and will be available Wednesday through Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through Labor Day. New Jersey resident parking is $5 on weekdays, $10 on weekends and holidays.
Palmyra Township Public Beach: 2512 Route 6, Hawley, PA
Open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting. Swimming is permitted but there are no lifeguards on duty.
Promised Land State Park: 100 Lower Lake Rd, Greentown, PA
Beaches open 8 a.m. to sunset. One beach located in the Day Use Picnic Area and the other on the end of Pickerel Point. No lifeguards; swim at your own risk.
West End Beach: 14 Ferry St., Port Jervis, NY
Activities: Swimming, boating, fishing, softball field and playgrounds
West End Beach is open from June 26 to Aug. 20. Lifeguards are on duty Monday, Thursday, and Friday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., and on weekends from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is a $15 parking fee for non-Port Jervis residents.
