Jack DaSilva was demoted from Milford Police Chief to patrolman late in the year. The borough council later gave lack of enforcement as a reason for the demotion.

8. Dispatcher who tried to save trooper sues state police for alleged rape
Nicole Palmer, the dispatcher working at the Blooming Grove State Police barracks on the night Eric Frein shot two troopers, in March filed a civil lawsuit against nine officers and Pennsylvania State Police itself. The suit alleges that a trooper raped her in 2013, and after that orchestrated a systematic course of conduct to discredit and retaliate against her.

6. Police: Consider fugitives 'armed and dangerous'
Mikayla Stilwell, 22, and Jarret Heitmann, 25, wanted for kidnapping and attempted murder in Tennessee, were briefly spotted in Westfall, Pa., in June. They remained on the lam until September, when the police caught up with them in Louisiana.

The third most-read story was the trial at the Pike County Courthouse of Eric Matthew Frein, who was convicted and sentenced to death for killing one trooper, Cpl. Bryon Dickson, and critically injuring another, Trooper Alex Douglass, at the Blooming Grove barracks in 2014.

The biggest story of the year was progress made in the case of Leanna Walker of Sunrise Lakes, whose badly burned remains were discovered in 2016. Sky at a llama farm in Milford. 2016. Her death was declared a homicide and in July her boyfriend, Sky McDonough, was arrested for her murder.
