For all of the fans, supporters and certainly those who competed sincerely in the sport, it’s beyond great news that girls and women’s wrestling is growing substantially across the country and indeed across the globe.

This is certainly true at the local level and fine example of this is Kate Prior, a member of the Delaware Valley High School girls wrestling program.

Prior not only competed very well during the high school winter season, but recently was a standout at the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) National Girls Wrestling Tournament held from March 27 through March 29 at the Virginia Convention Center in Virginia Beach.

“Kate, a Delaware Valley high school senior and two-year co-captain of the girls wrestling team, capped off an impressive high school career with her second All-American performance at the 2026 NHSCA National Girls Wrestling Tournament,’’ Delaware Valley girls wrestling coach Evan Bates said. “Prior entered the tournament as the eighth seed and pinned her way to the finals, defeating the top seed in the quarterfinals, three state champions and two top-three state place-winners from around the country.

“She ends her high school wrestling career with a seventh and second place finish at the NHSCA National Tournament, two State medals, two PIAA District 2 individual championships and many other tournament titles.’’

Prior’s high standard has unquestionably been etched in the history of Delaware Valley girls wrestling.

“She holds the school records for career wins and pins,’’ Bates said. “Kate poster will proudly hang in the girls’ wrestling room as she leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire girls well after she graduates.’’

Prior will continue compete against the best wrestling talent from across the country in the near future and distant future as well.

“She now looks forward to participating on National Dual Meet Teams in the spring before moving on to the collegiate wrestling circuit in the fall,’’ Bates said.
