The Ecumenical Food Pantry of Pike County was recently awarded a grant from the Greater Pike Community Foundation: Richard L Snyder Fund to assist in their efforts to fight food insecurity. This $5,000 award will help the pantry purchase fresh nutritious foods under its Healthy Options program, which provides milk, eggs, and a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables weekly to pantry clients.
Says pantry volunteer Jim Snodgrass, “Historically high grocery costs are forcing low-income households to spend a much larger percentage of their income on food. That, along with rising fuel prices and health care costs, is causing more and more families to come to us for help. This generous grant will help toward purchasing additional nutritious food. Thank you, Greater Pike Community Foundation, and the Richard L. Snyder Fund, for your support!”
The pantry currently serves between 90 and 100 families a week. It is an all-volunteer organization that has been helping our neighbors in Pike County since 1991. To learn more about the pantry, go to our webpage at www.ecumenicalfoodpantry.org.
