Delaware Valley field hockey team looks to capitalize on opportunities

Every time members of the Delaware Valley High School field hockey program compete in a game or a practice this season, it’s an opportunity they’ll to utilize for improvement, both as individuals and as a team.

The Warriors are scheduled to host Hanover Area on Tuesday, Sept. 15.

“I’d like to see us capitalize on our opportunities we get in the game,’’ Delaware Valley head coach Marielle Cohen said. “Also we want to work as a cohesive unit around the field and have solid corner defense. I’d love to see us pull out some wins over teams who’ve gotten the best of us in the past.’’

Key returning varsity tested student athletes looking to help guide the Warriors toward victory this year include Savannah Liz (senior, midfielder and back), Jordyn Ciarelli (senior, forward), Caitlin Luciano (junior, goal keeper), Gabby Baker (sophomore, midfielder and back) and CeCe Hazard (sophomore, forward and midfielder).

Promising newcomers looking to make a positive impression on the varsity lineup include Olivia Larsen (sophomore, back and midfield), Amaya Ruiz (sophomore, midfield and forward) and Holly Heinsman (sophomore, midfield and forward).

Leadership appears to be a valuable commodity in favor of Delaware Valley this season.

“Captains Savannah Liz, Jordyn Ciarelli, and Camila Moreira [will be looked upon as leader]; also Haleigh McHugh, Caitlin Luciano and Gabby Baker,’’ Cohen said. “On the field both at practice and during games, with work ethic, mindset, hustle, heart and off the field with their character and academic focus [are ways for them to demonstrate their leadership].’’

The Warriors are focused on improving their win-loss record from a year ago.

“We’re looking to make a splash and come up with wins,’’ Cohen said. “For us it would be Pittston and Abington. Holy Redeemer’s goalie made a ton of saves at Play Day (camp) too though, so I think getting around her will be a challenge.’’
